This guide explains how undergraduate merit is calculated at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), including the standard Matric, Intermediate, and NTS/NAT weightage.
COMSATS Undergraduate Merit Formula
The current CUI Lahore admissions FAQ lists the following undergraduate merit breakdown:
- Matric / SSC: 10%
- Intermediate / HSSC: 40%
- NTS / NAT: 50%
In simple form:
Aggregate = (Matric % × 10%) + (Intermediate % × 40%) + (NAT % × 50%)
Example Calculation
Suppose a student has:
- Matric percentage: 90%
- Intermediate percentage: 85%
- NAT percentage: 80%
Estimated aggregate:
(90 × 0.10) + (85 × 0.40) + (80 × 0.50) = 83.00%
This is only a mathematical example. It is not a predicted closing merit or admission guarantee.
NTS / NAT Test
CUI's current admissions FAQ states that the undergraduate admission test is the NTS NAT. It lists NAT categories according to the student's previous study group.
- Pre-Medical: NAT-IM
- Pre-Engineering: NAT-IE
- ICS: NAT-ICS
- General Science: NAT-IGS
- Arts / Humanities: NAT-IA
- I.Com / Commerce: NAT-ICOM
The same FAQ states that one NAT test makes an applicant eligible for any undergraduate program at CUI, subject to the applicable program requirements.

Eligibility and Program Requirements
Eligibility is program-specific. Students should check the official CUI undergraduate admission resources for the exact qualification, subject, and minimum-mark requirements of their selected degree.
CUI's current Lahore FAQ also notes specific rules for pre-medical applicants, O/A-Level students, and result-awaiting applicants. These rules should be checked against the admission session and selected program.
O/A-Level Students
The current CUI Lahore FAQ states that O-Level and A-Level students must obtain separate IBCC equivalence certificates for merit calculation.
Pre-Medical Students
CUI's current Lahore FAQ states that pre-medical students applying to certain programs such as Computer Science, Software Engineering or Physics have mathematics deficiency-course requirements. Applicants should verify the exact rule for their selected program before applying.
Architecture and Design Are Different
The standard 10% Matric + 40% Intermediate + 50% NTS/NAT formula should not be applied blindly to Architecture and Design.
CUI's published undergraduate merit criteria provide separate treatment for Architecture and Design programs, including a creative aptitude component.
